El Hierro is the smallest of the Canary Islands. The climate on this small volcanic island is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. The climate up in the mountains varies according to altitude and slope exposure: the slopes exposed to the northeast trade winds receive a moderate amount of rainfall and are green. Our pieces of land are situated close to the coast and up in the mountains. Close to the coast the climate is more desert like and warmer. In keeping with traditional custom, the donkeys live by the coast in the winter and up in the mountains in the summer.
In the future we would like to aquire more land so that we can grow hay for the donkeys.Lots of in formation about El Hierro can be found on the internet
